Angres Thorpe Named Assistant Basketball Coach at UWGB
April 16, 2008
Saint Louis University head men's basketball coach Rick Majerus today announced that assistant coach Angres Thorpe is leaving the program to assume the same position at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay. Thorpe will serve on Tod Kowalczyk's coaching staff for the Phoenix. "Angres did a very good job for us," Majerus said. "He was someone who positively impacted the players and program, and he will be missed. `AT' has a very bright future. We wish him success as UW-Green Bay is a terrific opportunity for him." "I want to thank coach Majerus, the coaching staff and student-athletes as well as everyone who supports Billiken athletics," Thorpe said. "I enjoyed my time as a Billiken and leave the University with some great memories. I will always be a supporter of the Billikens and look forward to them having a great season this year." Thorpe served as an assistant coach at SLU since 2002 and helped the Billikens become one of the top defensive teams in the Atlantic 10 Conference. SLU led the A-10 in scoring defense this season, surrendering just 61.6 ppg. During his tenure with the Billikens, Thorpe coached five All-Conference selections and two All-Rookie choices. Prior to SLU, Thorpe coached at Ball State and Lewis (Ill.) University. He also served as a graduate assistant at Loras (Iowa) College. Thorpe, a Chicago native, was a two-time All-Catholic League performer at Fenwick High School. He played at St. Leo College in Florida and earned his bachelor's degree in business management in 1990.
